Meet Dr. Louise Malandra

Posted on July 22, 2026

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dr LOUISE MALANDRA. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Dr LOUISE, appreciate you joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.

When most people hear “taking a risk” they think about quitting a job, investing money, or starting a business. My story is different:

Co-founding a school when there was no guarantee it would succeed

Accepting leadership positions that required transforming organisations

Earning a doctorate while building a careerLaunching my own consulting business after decades in public education

And perhaps the greatest risk of all: deciding that one difficult season of life would not define the rest of it.

People often think about risk as gambling. I have come to believe it’s really about growth.

One vivid example- deciding to launch my consulting practice after a long career in educational leadership, at a time when many people would have chosen security instead.

The experience taught me that the greatest risk isn’t failing. It is allowing fear to keep us from becoming who we are capable of becoming.

Every meaningful chapter of my life began with a decision I could not fully predict. Looking back. I do not regret the risks I took. I regret the opportunities I might have missed if I had chosen certainty instead.

The moments that transform us almost always begin with a decision to step into uncertainty.

Dr LOUISE, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Throughout my career, I have been driven by one question: How can we create systems that help people thrive? That question has guided me from the classroom to executive leadership, through founding a school, leading organizational transformation, earning a doctorate, and ultimately launching my own consulting practice.

I founded Dr. Louise Malandra & Associates because I wanted to create a firm where my decades of experience in educational leadership, organizational development, and executive coaching could be fully dedicated to helping mission-driven organizations strengthen leadership, improve systems, and achieve lasting impact. My clients include schools, nonprofits, and organizations that are committed to serving others and creating meaningful change in their communities.

Our work centers on executive coaching, strategic planning, leadership development, organizational improvement, and professional learning. Rather than offering one-size-fits-all solutions, we partner with organizations to understand their unique challenges and develop practical strategies that build capacity, strengthen teams, and improve outcomes. Whether we are coaching executives, facilitating strategic planning, or designing professional learning experiences, our goal is always the same: to help leaders create organizations where both people and performance flourish.

What sets my work apart is that it is grounded in both experience and empathy. I have spent decades leading complex organizations, navigating change, and helping teams move through challenges together. Those experiences taught me that successful leadership is never just about strategy—it is about relationships, trust, resilience, and the courage to adapt.

Launching my business marked the beginning of a new chapter in my own journey. Like many entrepreneurs, I discovered that building a business requires both vision and perseverance. That experience has only strengthened my appreciation for leaders who are willing to take thoughtful risks in pursuit of meaningful work.

The accomplishment I am most proud of is not a single position I have held or a particular title. It is knowing that throughout my career I have helped develop leaders, strengthen organizations, and create opportunities for others to succeed. There is no greater professional satisfaction than seeing people and organizations grow beyond what they believed was possible.

If there is one thing I hope readers take away, it is that leadership is ultimately about service. My brand is built on the belief that lasting success comes from investing in people, building resilient organizations, and leading with integrity, curiosity, and purpose. My mission is to help leaders navigate complexity with confidence so they can create meaningful and lasting impact in the communities they serve.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

People often think resilience is about surviving one difficult moment. My journey has taught me something different. Resilience is not a single event—it is a way of living. It is the willingness to keep moving forward with purpose, even when life asks you to begin again.

Throughout my career, I have embraced opportunities that required courage: helping lead educational transformation, founding a school, serving in executive leadership roles, earning my doctorate, and eventually launching my own consulting practice after decades in public education. Each new chapter required me to step into uncertainty with the belief that meaningful change is always possible.

One of the most defining seasons of my life came when I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. In the midst of treatment, I found myself confronting not only my health, but also my identity, my priorities, and my vision for the future. Like many people facing unexpected adversity, I had moments of fear and uncertainty. Yet I also discovered a deeper truth: resilience is not about pretending to be strong every day. It is about choosing hope when certainty is no longer available.

Rather than allowing that season to define me, I chose to let it refine me. As I recovered, I continued building Dr. Louise Malandra & Associates with an even greater sense of purpose. My experience deepened my empathy as a leader and strengthened my commitment to helping organizations build resilient cultures where people feel supported, valued, and empowered to grow through change.

Looking back, I realize that every meaningful chapter of my life has begun with a decision to embrace the unknown. Whether leading organizational transformation, starting a business, or navigating a personal health crisis, I have learned that growth rarely happens within the boundaries of comfort.

Today, resilience is no longer simply something I admire—it is something I practice. It shapes how I lead, how I serve my clients, and how I approach every new opportunity. I believe our greatest challenges often become our greatest teachers, and that the courage to begin again is one of the most powerful forms of leadership.

If my journey has taught me anything, it is this: resilience is not about returning to the person you were before adversity. It is about becoming an even stronger, wiser, and more purposeful version of yourself. That lesson continues to guide both my life and my work.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

When people ask about my entrepreneurial journey, they often expect a story about starting a business. While that’s certainly part of it, my journey began long before I became an entrepreneur. It began with a lifelong commitment to education, leadership, and the belief that every person deserves the opportunity to reach their fullest potential.

For more than four decades, I have served as a teacher, school leader, executive, consultant, and founder, helping schools, nonprofits, and mission-driven organizations strengthen leadership, improve systems, and create environments where people can thrive.

Throughout my career, I have learned that meaningful change is never just about strategy—it is about relationships, trust, and the courage to lead with purpose.

Launching Dr. Louise Malandra & Associates was not about leaving one career behind; it was about bringing together everything I had learned into one mission. Today, I have the privilege of partnering with leaders and organizations through executive coaching, strategic planning, leadership development, and professional learning. My goal is not to provide quick answers, but to help leaders ask better questions, build resilient teams, and create lasting impact in the communities they serve.

Like many entrepreneurs, my path has not been linear. There have been seasons of uncertainty, unexpected challenges, and moments that required me to choose faith over fear. Those experiences reinforced a lesson I now share with every client I serve: resilience is not simply the ability to recover from adversity—it is the willingness to grow through it.

One of the greatest lessons I have had to unlearn is the belief that leaders must have all the answers. Over time, I discovered that the strongest leaders create space for others to contribute, learn, and flourish. Leadership is less about having the right answer and more about asking the right questions, listening deeply, and empowering others to discover what they are capable of achieving.

What sets my work apart is the perspective that comes from both professional experience and lived experience. I understand organizational change because I have led it. I understand uncertainty because I have lived through it. And I understand resilience because I have had to practice it. Those experiences have deepened my empathy and strengthened my conviction that our greatest challenges often become our greatest teachers.

If there is one message I hope readers take away, it is this: every meaningful chapter of our lives begins with the courage to step into the unknown. Entrepreneurship is not simply about building a business. It is about building a life aligned with your values, your purpose, and the impact you hope to leave behind.

Today, I am proud to help leaders and organizations navigate change with confidence, cultivate resilient cultures, and transform challenges into opportunities for growth. I believe the most enduring legacy any of us can leave is not measured by titles or accomplishments, but by the people we empower and the lives we help transform.
